Beirut River, Beirut, LB
Panagiotis Albanis

In the first glance, Beirut is defined heavily by the two factors. Firstly, the geomorphological elements - Mount Lebanon, Mediterranean Sea, Beirut River. Secondly, the intense urbanization phase of the city that has never stopped. Beirut River is the natural element that historically provided the proper conditions for agricultural activities to the riparian zones. However, in the last years, new developments are gaining ground against the last “immaculate’’ open spaces.

Panta rhei

Panta rhei (πάντα ῥεῖ), a phrase credited to Heraclitus, contends that  "everything flows". The proposal tries to reclaim the last unused and not developed soil. As a new kind of connecting tissue, it aspires to reconnect the soil, the underground waters and the traditional land uses by creating a newtype of public space.
